Plumbing Fixtures to Inspect in a New Home

Moving into a new home is exciting, but very few people realize how important it is to check their new house’s plumbing fixtures. Inspecting your pipes may not seem as fun as buying new furniture, but it’s still an essential step in the moving process. Before you put down a deposit, there are a few things you should check.

Plumbing Fixtures to Inspect in a New Home

Sinks and Drains

Check all the sinks in the house to make there are no clogs. Turn the water off and on to ensure that it functions properly. If you notice the faucet dripping, it could be a sign of damaged water valves or high water pressure.

Toilets

Flush each toilet in the home to make sure things are running properly. Toilets are usually inexpensive to fix, but it’s still important to be aware of any issues. If the toilet is severely cracked or leaking a lot of water, it may have to be replaced entirely.

Water Pressure

To test the water pressure in your home, you’ll need to attach a pressure gauge to a spigot beside the main water supply. If the house uses city water, you can just call the water department for a reading. 45-55 psi is considered a good range. Low water pressure can cause your water supply to be cut off unexpectedly.

Water Heater

Having warm water is important, especially in cool climates and during the winter months. Always ask about the age of the water heater in your new home and test it for yourself. You don’t want to be stuck in the middle of taking a shower while the hot water runs out.

Do I Need a Plumbing Inspection?

You could check all of these fixtures yourself, but we recommend scheduling a plumbing inspection. The untrained eye may not be able to catch little issues that could become big (and expensive!) problems over time. At Ory’s Plumbing Solutions, we offer inspections as well as fixes for any problems we may find. Contact us today to set up an appointment.
